Capuchin monkeys often rub their bodies with certain type of millipede. Laboratory tests show that secretions from the bodies of these millipedes are rich into two chemicals that are potent mosquito repellents, and mosquitoes carry parasites that debilitate capuchins. Some scientists hypothesize that the monkey rub their bodies with the millipedes because doing so helps protect them from mosquitoes.

I chose C, but the correct one I referred is E. I don't understand clearly. May any one help me to explain this?

Hypothesis: the monkey rub their bodies with the millipedes because doing so helps protect them from mosquitoes.
We need to go for the option that strengthens this !!C does this ,it says when mosquito population is at peak they rub their bodies with milipedes!!!
