Hi A2D2,

If this recent 490 is an accurate assessment of your current ability level, then you will likely need more than just 1 month of additional study time (and some 'tips') to get to the point that you can consistently score 650+. There's no harm in taking the GMAT as scheduled/planned, but if you're going to continue to study until you hit that Score (or close to it), then you could potentially save some time, money and frustration by pushing back that Test Date.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) Have you used any other study materials besides the ones that you have already mentioned? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you have a month left, consider purchasing some/all of the Official Mocks that you haven't attempted yet. You may want to save 1, however, just in case you decide to retake for whatever reason.

Hi A2D2,

Since your application(s) are not due until next March - then you've made a really smart choice to focus on the GMAT now (re: far in advance of when you will actually "need" your Score). Since you do not appear to be facing any immediate deadlines at this point, it's not clear why you seem to be 'limiting' your studies to just 1 more month. I completely understand that you might want to be done with the GMAT sooner rather than later, but your REAL Goal is to hit 650+ (so you have to give yourself enough time - and learn the proper Quant and Verbal Tactics - to achieve that Goal).

From what you describe, it sounds as though you might be planning to "cram" during this next month of study time and take lots of CATs/mocks. Each CAT is really a 'measuring device' though - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to learn the necessary Tactics and put in the proper practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. In addition, the process of taking (and reviewing) a CAT requires a significant amount of energy and effort - and takes time to 'recover' from. This is one of the reasons why you typically should not take more than 1 CAT per week - and your last CAT should be taken about 1 week before Test Day. Going forward, you really should not take more than 1 FULL CAT per week.

If you have any questions that you would prefer to discuss privately, then you can feel free to PM or email me directly.

Hi A2D2,

I would suggest going for a full-fledged study for your GMAT then you should be looking for a well designed, comprehensive, and a dedicated gmat prep course especially for quant, I would definitely recommend going for the TTP. Target Test Prep has done wonders for me with their program and have helped a lot in my gmat journey.

Good luck,

Osamah
