Hi guys,
I would love to hear your opinion on my profile and how 'competitive' I am.
Here it is:
Country: Brazil
Age: 27
Gender: male
GMAT score: I will do the exam on September 11 , in 9 days.
Undergrad: Industrial Engineering (I don't know what is my equivalent GPA, but I scored at an average of 80% the answers correctly, and I attended a well known college here in Brazil)
Work experience: I opened a plus size clothing production and online store for men. The company did well. I started all alone, in a city I did not know anyone at first. Total time: almost 4 years
Reasons I closed the company: I realised I was going to be unhappy living (or at least going every month) in a factory in a small city. And it was too much of a physically labor intensive work.
My goal: VC or PE.
Hobby: Triathlon (Training for the Ironman)
Other: I passed the CFA exams
So, can I get some insight on how competitive (if so) I am ? Do I stand a chance trying the top MBAs (Harvard and so on) ?
Thanks and KUDOS for everyone !
Hi there,
Yes you do have a good chance at M7 schools. A couple of positives in your profile
1. Diversity - From Brazil. Not many candidates apply from LATAM.
2. Work Ex - Lately, the entrepreneurial background is being appreciated all over.
3. Professional Qualification: Having a CFA charter is a big plus. Also, it aligns with your post-MBA goals.
A couple of pointers
1. GMAT Score - Even after a good profile, you need to score high on GMAT. International applicants are down in all the schools in USA but still there are enough applicants for M7 schools to be highly selective.
2. Your reason to shut your entrepreneurial venture can be improved.
3. Harvard, although a good brand, may not be the best school for VC or PE industry. I'd recommend you apply to Wharton, Columbia, Chicago Booth, Stern and Harvard (if its your dream school). I just gave you the list of
5 schools you may fill in your GMAT exam.
I hope this help. Good Luck with your exam.
