Hello everyone
I'm reading the forum for some time now and really enjoy the many helpful sources. I have been studying for some time and will take my GMAT exam a week from now.
Somehow I have trouble evaluating what the next step should be preparing for the exam... I would be very grateful if you guys could take a look at my situation and give me some feedback. I read many threads (e.g. from 650+ to over 700 aso.) but still have trouble determine further prep steps.
After a bachelor in business administration I like to pursue a master degree in finance.
Goal: 700 minimum (Q46, V40 seems realistic spread)
1 Test Date: 18.11.2013
2 Test Date: Early January 2014 if goal not reached
Study materials used:
- OG 12th
- OG Quant 2nd
- Kaplan Advanced Prep for Advanced Students
-
MGMAT Advanced GMAT Quant
Ordered:
-
MGMAT Quant Guides complete
-
MGMAT SC
Time spend studying until today: 140 hours
I started early October 2013 to take a look at the gmat and dived heavily into it around October 15th.
My strong suit is usually the verbal part (got 116/120 TOEFL), but since I learned English just by reading stuff, watching movies and speaking I have absolutely no knowledge of English grammar.
I neglected math for a great deal but want to go into it more deeply in the future. That's why I have put a lot of effort in improving my quant score. (Basically spent over 100+hours studying quant).
Took some prep tests and got the following results:
22.10.2013 Q40, V38, Score: 640 - GMAT Prep
30.10.2013 Q42, V40, Score: 670 - Veritas
07.11.2013 Q42, V33, Score: 620 -
MGMAT09.11.2013 Q46, V 36, Score: 660 - Kaplan
11.11.2013 Q44, V 35, Score: 650 - GMAT Prep
I was really stressed with the first tests (
MGMAT especially) but the more prep tests I take the better it gets. I recognized to be better in approaching quant after my studies but I'm still too stressed.
The drop in my verbal scores annoys me... if I could put the two parts together (Q46, V 40) I would be able to reach my goal...
Evaluation of the last prep test left me with the following:
11.11.2013 Quant mistakes: 2 Questions I coudn't solve (didnt know how), 8 Questions with silly mistakes
11.11.2013 Verbal mistakes: 2 CR, 2 RC, 8 SC
Planned further training until test 1:
- Taking more CATs to perform better in quant under stress/avoid silly mistakes
- Review CATs to close knowledge gap and improve in general
- Focus on SC in verbal part, read GMAT Club Grammar Book, go through
MGMAT SC
What would you suggest I should spend my time on regarding:
1. Preparation for first exam next week
2. Preparation during rest of November - December until possible test date 2
Your thoughts and feedback are greatly appreciated. Sometimes other opinions help to see clearer.
Thanks and best regards
Kaali
