Hi, I took the exam 2 days ago and scored 620. V25, q49. I increased my quant score significantly from last time but my overall score dropped significantly because of verbal. Last time I got a total score of 640. V 35 and Q44, so I spent a month focusing on quant.

I also continued practicing on verbal, but I didn’t expect my verbal to drop by 10 points. The verbal section definitely felt harder than last time. A lot of CR questions have at least 5 lines… it was a lot to digest.

I’ve exhausted OG material in my studying. What should I do next? Should I use Magoosh or EGMAT for verbal ? What do I need to do to keep my skills sharp on quant?

I’m also losing confidence and motivation. I’ve already spent at least 300-400 hours on this exam; it is not going as I expected. My target score is 730, but now im not sure how I can achieve it.

If you've run out of Official-Guide questions, consider checking whether the guide you purchased came with an online exclusive question bank you can activate/use (you can get e-versions of the different guides from the MBA website). You can also check out Manhattan-Prep's 6th Edition for SC and CR. Working with a study buddy who is strong on Verbal and needs help with Quant could be a good fit as well.

How to get a V40 or higher on the GMAT? What about a V51?

Hi Gmat700plussss,

I'm sorry to hear that this second attempt did not turn out better. After your 1st attempt, it sounded as though you purchased the Enhanced Score Report for your Official GMAT. Did you purchase the ESR for this attempt as well? While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchased the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied in total? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi

1. You must order for an ESR and analyse it to find your deficiencies.
2. Start with the weakest sections first.
3. Analyse whether the shortcomings are conceptual or process related.
4.If the shortcomings are conceptual- you must revisit the basics and then take it ahead from there.
5. If your shortcomings are process related- You must revisit the incorrect questions and make conscious efforts to apply the right process.
6. Once you fix the gaps, you must take lengthy and mixed quizzes to get test Ready.
7. If you do well on the above step, you must move to mocks
