Hi IppoMakanouchi
Happy to chime in

Can you share your sectional percentiles?

Overall, you have a great profile. My only concern would be that the older you are, the more competitive it becomes. Although you did not mention your age, I am guessing you may be nearing your mid-30s, and by design, the number of admits INSEAD would want to give out to people in this age range would be comparatively lower. So, you are not optimizing for your GMAT, you are ideally optimizing your application for your age and experience—not to mention that you already have an MBA, which will(the 2nd MBA) also require a very strong justification.

As long as your quant score is above the 85th percentile, you need not be too concerned because your profile looks attractive on the surface. INSEAD will also take into account your previous academics if they have any concerns about your GMAT score. Go ahead in R1, I say, to maximize your chances, but keep an open mind about the GMAT improvement so that in case you are put on the WL, you are prepared to show an improvement on the score if needed.

Hi. INSEAD's average is about 700-710 based on the old scale and that's around 645-655, so you are right there with overall average. Yes, you are right, a little under the bar probably for the India group of applicants.... but it is still at/above average for the school.

However, your Consulting and Google brand will absolutely win INSEAD over.
I can recommend submit a profile for evaluation in the Decision Tracker as well for Admissions consultants to comment on. However, I feel you are just fine with your score and as long as you tell them you are planning a safe transition / will recruit on your own, I feel you have a strong profile with a good shot.

P.S. Are you applying for Jan Intake?

Hi bb,

First off, I really appreciate the time you've taken to answer my questions.
Can you elaborate on "planning a safe transition / will recruit on your own" advice. What does it mean exactly and whether I need to highlight this in my application or just when (and IF) I interview. TIA!

Also, yes I'm planning to apply for Jan'26 FT MBA program. Cheers!

I'm well aware that I'm from an over represented demographic and so, doubts are creeping in about whether I should apply in R1 or wait till R2 and try to improve my GMAT score.
Please share your advice. If you need additional information, let me know. TIA!
Hi IppoMakanouchi,

That's a tough one. When it comes to the top schools, we generally want to go in with as high a GMAT score as possible. Now, you could absolutely go ahead with a 665, but since you're an FMS grad, do you think you could get a better score (I understand it's been some time)?

Hi Ajitesh,
Yes, my score was below expectations as I did score 695 in official mock before hand. I had a slightly below expectations performance in DI (89th percentile) and a much lower than expected percentile in quant (88th percentile) as it is my strong suit. However, due to personal reasons, I won't be able to retake the test before R1 deadline. So the question becomes, should I let go of the advantage of applying early (R1) in the hopes of a better score to apply with in R2.
Let me know what you think. Thank you for your help!

Hi Aanchal,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm currently 32 years old (will be 33 by Jan'26). My sectional percentiles are similar across the board. Verbal 84th, Quant 88th and DI 89th. Let me know if this helps form a better judgement of my profile/chances. Cheers!

Percentile-wise, I don't see major concerns. A balanced Quant and verbal score is a good sign. Yes, your overall score could be better, and if you feel you have it in you to significantly score higher, don't hold yourself back. But this close to the first deadline, only you can be the best judge of how your application is shaping up.
If I just comment on the stats, as BB also mentioned, prior experience in consulting and Google brand association is something INSEAD cannot easily overlook. INSEAD exists to cater to this segment! INSEAD would need a very strong reason not to invite you for an interview, and that could even be something seemingly trivial such as poor essays, a badly done résumé, or a lack of strong reasoning for a second MBA. (I don't know what your goals are, but I hope they are both motivational and aspirational, justifying the need for a global MBA.)
What I’m trying to say is that for a candidate with your profile, a 665 with an 88th percentile Quant score on the GMAT will likely not be the reason you don’t get through in R1.

Sure, I mean that you are not telling the school that you need them to find you a job to demonstrate that you are proactive, you have lined up a goal, plan, have things in motion, maybe even have a position in mind and all you need is some of their magic, some classes, etc. You want to demonstrate as much potential for future success with as few variables as possible if that makes sense.

For someone with your kind of profile, the GMAT score will not be a deal breaker. The 665 is pretty good actually. INSEAD is anyways a school that focuses a lot more on the overall fit.

If you don't get an interview call, it will most likely be because you weren't able to convince the school why you need a second MBA. Specially since FMS is a pretty good school itself. And that too after 10 years of passing out. That's the part I would focus on. INSEAD R1 deadline is 11th March, so you may want to do R2 in case you haven't started working on your essays yet. Don't rush those.

Thank you Aanchal. To avoid spamming the post with a long message, I sent you a DM regarding my goals and justification for a second MBA. Looking forward to your thoughts on those. :)
