Should be E

From statement 1:

450<X>500

From Statement 2:

350<Y>400

Combining both X+Y;

800<X>900 which means we cannot say which multiple of 100 it is closest to. Hence E

I'm going with E, too. X + Y could be closer to 800 or 900, depending on how it turns out...

Yup, that's what i get.

802 <= x+y <= 898.

I choose E.

I second (and third) (E)

from stem:

450 < X < 550
350 < Y < 450

combined:

800 < X+Y < 1000

can be 8*100, 9*100 or 10*100 depending.

statement 1

X < 500

combined:

800 < X+Y < 950

can be 8*100 or 9*100 depending.

statement 2

Y < 400

combined:

800 < X+Y < 950

can be 8*100 or 9*100 depending.

insufficent

statement 1 & 2

combined:

800 < X+Y < 900

can be 8*100 or 9*100 depending.

insufficent

you have a number x and the closest number to it which is also a multiple of 100 is 500.

so for any number 450 < x < 550, 500 would be the colsest multiple of 100. for 450 colsest multiple of 100 would be 400 and for 551 it would be 600.
