First of all I'd like to thank everyone here at gmatclub. I've been reading the threads for a while. Here is my story:
My goal is to apply for a top school in Canada. So I will need upper 600's-700. 3 days ago, I took the GMAT for the first time (after about a month and half of studying
OG and Princeton), and scored a 630 with AWA: 5.5. I think I'll need a retake to ensure an admission and would welcome some healthy advice.
Verbal (40) : 89th percentile, I would be more than happy if I end up repeating this score. One of my undergrad majors was philosophy which I believe helped me out greatly. I don't think I can improve this score by much, English is my second language afterall.
Quant (36): ahhh yes.....Math. This is 48th percentile which I believe I can improve with about a month of hardcore studying (5 hours a day?). I think I suffer in just about every aspect of math but have the most trouble in DS. I am not particularly proud of my undergrad performance in Math courses either (C+ average there)
my application is strong enough that if I repeat this score but have better math (more balanced score), I think I can get to a good school here.
Questions:
1- I have heard that schools may accept people with bad verbal, but they rarely do so for those with bad Quant. Is this true?
2- I have already sent my score to the schools of my choice. IF I retake the GMAT and score lower (which I just don't see happening since I can't do any worse in Math and had a very easy time with verbal), would they ever find out? Of course I won't report the score right there and will just pay the 25 dollars if I score better.
3- Is one full month enough to raise the Quant?
4- Please suggest books/exams.
I'd REALLY appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
