Question

Hi All

I've a small qn.I'm planning to write GMAT in Sept'16.Now I'm almost done with CR n SC from OG16.Do I need to consult OG 12 or 10.(I have the both) along with GMAC Verbal Review or should I go for some other Material.For Quant I'm doing OG'12(as I am studying MGMAT & it has loads of qns from OG'12 thtsy).

MY Qn
 1.For Verbal,Do I need to consult OG12/10 or Verbal review by GMAC even if i'm done with OG16
 2.For Quant,I'm practicing OG'12.Will DO OG'16 for sure.But what else in this rest 3 months?

Have you taken any mocks under realistic conditions? What scores did you get? What is your goal score?

yaa..taken 3 as of now..Score ranged from 460-630..Goal 720+..I'm talking about thorough study material kinda..Not Mock..

I know, I'm just trying to determine where you stand. Because your best mock is still 100 points below your goal, I'd say you need to go for more challenging practice material compared to OG. You seem to have a good starting point, at the very least.

Take time to review all the information about 3rd party materials available at this forum. Are you from India? If you're from India and have an IT background, you most likely fit the average GMAT taker: Strong at quant, poor at verbal. Because you are already using what I consider to be the best quant resource available (MGMAT), I believe you are on the right path on this aspect. You may have to worry a bit more about verbal though. Look for verbal resource recommendations: they are not hard to get, since the demand for verbal material is higher than quant.

Hi abhic87,

From what you've described, you've uses a "book heavy" study approach so far. Even the best books are limited in what they can teach you; they also can't force you to approach questions in a certain way and their explanations are often one-sided. Given your score goal, you'll likely need to invest in some new, non-book resources and learn/practice some new Tactics.

You mentioned the score 'ranges' on your 3 CATs, but I'd like to know more about each of them individually:

1) What were the Overall Score and the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores on each of your CATs?
2) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
3) Did you take them at home?
4) Did you take them at the same time of day as when you'll likely take your Official GMAT?
5) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)? 
6) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions before?

Thankfully, the GMAT is a predictable, standardized Test, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.
