Now that I am totally done with submitting R2 apps, need to spend some time on developing a solid strategy to get off the Tepper WL.
Need some inputs from the club gurus to select which amongst the following is effective and in what sequence.
1)Report a TOEFL score where I scored a 30/30 in writing section, to offset low AWA 4.5 (and remove any shadow of doubt on my writing skills.). I am an intl...so this test score might help.
2)Show more fit with the program through a 1-page essay.(I def. did a poor job in highlighting the numerous resources that CMU provides in my area of interest)
3)Try to see if some of the students I had contacted early on can write in a reco (depends heavily on whether they are interested to do this).
4)Write a crisp essay...2-3 paras clarifying my goals better. Vague originally.
5)Addnl essay...2-3 paras...showing how I can contribute to the Tepper community. (Was vague on this in my original essays).
I already visited school and made some contacts. I don't believe visiting again willhelp. But I will contact some folks again to get some more details and highlight that in addnl matl.

I would go with the third options and try to implement into recommendation the why CMU and how you could contribute from the point of view of the current student. Also, first option with TOEFL score could be viable, but I doubt that 4.5 score in AWA shows that you are really weak. Did you report previously your TOEFL score? What was the score for Writing there? All the other options show mostly that you didn't do your "homework" due to some reasons and now want to recover. But I think that AdComs prefer everything to be done on time.

in short, do some of the things you mentioned, but don't go overboard. Ask Tepper students to get you in contact with people who were WL before and what they did. Figure out what the school prefers (some like communication, others forbid them).
Also, you should check with Avi to see if he has good tips.
