Hi Guys,
I would really appreciate help to decide on MBA vs MIM for a better career in consulting 7 years down the line and also the right schools for same.
I plan to get into consulting (strategy to be specific)
Profile:
Undergraduation: NIFT, Bachelors in Fashion Technology (GPA- 8.1)
GMAT score: 700 (Q48 V37) (second attempt, first was 610 if at all it matters)
work experience: 1 year full time as an Entrepreneur, started and run a cafe profitably for one year at the age of 19 with a team of 5 people along with college. Currently working on my E-commerce business in Handicraft space. The start up is selected in top 10 budding handicraft start ups in country by Govt of India.
extra curriculars:
1) district level athlete (have over 10 gold medals), founded athletics club in the college.
2) Head of student council at school
I would really appreciate help to decide on MBA vs MIM for a better career in consulting 7 years down the line and also the right schools for same.

When do you plan to go into consulting? 7 years from now? Consulting (especially strategy/management consulting) is the type of gig you land coming out of school, not many years after you have accrued experience.
As for your profile, you are better off with the MIM programs. As we noted in response to your other post, you are not a strong candidate now for an MBA. The MIM programs are a different beast and often times favor students with little to no work experience.
For the schools, do you want to do an MIM program in the US or elsewhere?

First, let us understand some major differences between MIM and MBA.
You can consider the MiM degree as a springboard into entry-level positions in business management that need little or no experience (approx 1-2 year), so that's perfect for your situation since an MBA require a good amount of relevant (to the business field) work experience.
MBA programs are best suited for individuals who want to have exposure in the management field, so since you want to pursue consulting in the long run, MBA degree would be perfect in such a scenario. Furthermore, MiM does not require significant professional accomplishments, unlike the MBA. Also, Students with a bachelor's degree in any subject can apply to most MiM programs.
You could refer to an article for more details on the admission process, program duration, ROI, and further career options. The article discusses every aspect of the MiM and MBA program in contrast, along with reference to the Top colleges for the MiM program. So it would make your job easy to select one over the other.
Now, for your extracurricular, I would like you to briefly introduce your role as a Head of the student council at school, the responsibilities undertaken, and the jobs are done! Also, your achievement in athletics is superb. You should definitely highlight this. The same goes for your current work status at an E-commerce business in the Handicraft space. Describe your role, the challenges you face, the varied responsibilities, and the successful projects.
You have a good GPA and GMAT for MiM, but if you are planning for an MBA a few years later, you need to score higher. Most important thing that you should keep in mind is that you have to be exceptional in your essay and interview. Moreover, it would be best to build a robust profile, adding every detail to help you secure a spot.
