Hello, I need help with a Trigonometry question. I am studying for the GMAT and I am working out of Kaplan's "Math Foundations" book and I have come across a question that I cannot figure out. They have the answer but I cannot figure out how they got that answer. Can someone please explain the steps to how they go the answer to this question?
The question gives me a right triangle, and gives me one of the acute angles, 35 degrees. It then gives me the length of the adjacent side, 1000 ft. And it wants me to find the height of of the opposite side of the 35 degree angle. I used the SOH CAH TOA method and got tan 35 degree = opposite/adjacent; (x/1000). But I received 35000ft (which I knew was wrong).
The book said that the correct answer is 700.2 feet ( which is rounded to the nearest tenth). And I am just lost at how they came up with that answer. Can someone please help?
