I have taken GMAT thrice. Additionally, I have taken a few mock tests recently. The one thing that I noticed is that though my accuracy-with-timing is >= 90% in CR and >=85% in SC in easy/medium/hard questions, the same is terrible in RC.
In RC, I struggle to get 80% accuracy even in easy questions. In hard questions, my accuracy varies and goes to as low as 10-20%. This is bringing down my Verbal and hence overall score. How can I improve my RC?
Below is some information for context:
1. For the last 10 years, I have been reading various novels (of global standards) and do not struggle with either the time or the speed
2. I find it really difficult to understand what the question stem is asking
3. I am able to understand the passage, but I find it really difficult to answer the questions - I get down to two or three answer choices and eventually end up selecting the incorrect answer choice
4. I feel I struggle with mapping the questions and answer choices with the passage
5. I have relatively higher accuracy in the main idea and inference type questions
6. For the hard passages, my accuracy in stated idea is almost 0%
The worst part? I am not able to improve.
I tried solving OG questions. Sometimes my accuracy is >90% and sometimes its <50%. This inconsistency is giving me negative vibes and I feel like attempting questions without significantly changing my RC strategies is simply moot.
Given that my Quant score (OG mocks and actual exams) is between 49-51, and verbal score is between 35-37 (Min percentile for SC/CR = 80, max percentile for SC/CR = 96), I am very concerned about RC. I know if I improve me RC score, I can score >750 on GMAT! Please help.
PS - 2/3 times in my actual exam, I scored 6 on AWA and 8 on IR. Just the thought that I have 8/8 IR, 6/6 AWA, 50/51 Quant, but very poor Verbal gives me shivers. All because of RC. No wonder RC haunts me!
