Can someone help me with the subjunctive...I got a question today that I thought was a IF, THEN statement, but turned out to be subjunctive.
If I drink milk, then I will be big.
If I were a rich man, I would buy 100 houses.
Why is statement 1 not: If I were to drink milk, then I would be big?

1: If I drink milk, then I will be big :- its not unreal but could be possible or future conditional sentence. 2: If I were a rich man, I would buy 100 houses :- it is completely unreal sentence and can absolutely not happen in the future. So this is past but unreal condition.
so the grammer of these two sentences are different.
this should also be ok: If I were to drink milk, then I would have been big.
