Can anyone explain why they feel choice D is incorrect?

'D' is wrong since ramjets (Plural) is compared with scramjet (Singular)

I totally missed that split...

Btw, are there any particular SC idiom/parallism rule related to the word "whereas" that we should be mindful of?

Lastly, the OA is indeed B.

D is also wrong because:

1) it unnecessarily infixes the conjunction "with" between Unlike and ramjets.

2) it`s much wordier: "uncapable of" vs "cannot"
