I'm siddharth, a 21 yr guy working at TCS in chennai,India. I gave my GMAT on 7th oct '05..got a 730(v38,q50). Well i guess i need a lot of intro to be done b4 ya ppl can figure out wat i'm upto..guess tis'll be quite long..
Well i finished my B.Tech with Honors in Electrical engineering and passed out in May'05. Got the univ gold medal also and made a cracker out of my acads. Coll life was pretty wundrful for me and i guess tat'll go a long way in helping for my admits to a nice bschool.. I got placed at TCS in campus recruits in July'04 and was waiting happily to join in jul'05. Sudd got letter from the company tat my joinin dt was postponed to Oct'05. Aghast at this in te 1st place..i dinno wat to do for the 3 months and strtd out checkin on th options..'d always dreamt of an mba and tot tat i cud use these 3 months for prep for GMAT.. Took tat decision coz i was fresh from college and tot i cud continue doin gud in exams..
And so i started prep for gmat..booked my date on Oct 7th'05 after taking a dignostic in July in which i got 530(pretty lousy for a start..). Guess for anybody who starts a prep it mus be frus to get such a score..but slowly i gathered materials, as usual kap and PR buks and got into touch wit 2 profs who were taking gre,gmat classes. Initially verbal cr and rc were very diff and i was failin badly in those sections..Quantz was pretty easy for me coz of my sound engg background..i started working lots on my verbal sections and practiced all exercises in the buks and other resources on the net..(still baffles me on how i missed out on tis wundrful forum)..i started takin my full length tests by sep..these were my scores in
kaplan PR
CAT 1 : 610 660
CAT 2 : 630 680
CAT 3 : 640 710
CAT 4 : 680 690
My view is that kaplan scores always tend to demoralise even a gd performer and PR was sumwat easy compared to Kap..esp verbal in kaplan is crazy stuff..a little advice to all those GMAT buddies who r gonna take tis test is not to get bogged down by all these scores. I gave my powerprep tests jus a week b4 my xam and got a cool 730 and 740 in that. I guess all these tests gave me the perfect practice for the exam. I took all of them in real testing conditions even thouch t was at my home. Made sure no one was there and took em fully even writing the two essays and made sure that i took them from my alloted slot time of 9.00 to 1.00..
guess with a systematic and steady prep, a score of 700+ is easily possible..Test day was on Oct 7th and t sure turned out to e a wundrful one.. i was the only one writing GMAT at my center though there were many writing gre and toefl..the atmosphere was great..got too wonderful essays which i fin in jiffy due to my extensive practice and then quantz went 5n, i knew i wud b gettin gud score in that..verbal strtd off wit sum crazy sc's but was ok though i feel i lost out in sum of the rc's..finally after a long wait staring at the screer..there it was..got a 730..nice feelin..
wud love to share lots wit ya ppl..lukin fwd to replies to which i can be of gud help i suppose..

on your good Gmat score.. If Iwere you I would wait a couple of years befoer i start applying. The 2 years experince that you gain will let you bring a lot more to the table when you do ur MBA.
