Correct answer is B.

Check the second part of the sentence, after the underlined part. "...a rocket, a scramjet.., can attain..." Given this, you get the clue that the first part of the sentence should refer to a singular kind of jet/rocket, hence "a ramjet". Both should be singular to be parallel.
Only options B and E use ramjet in singular form. Now check idiom usage "whereas" vs "although."
"Whereas" is usually used to compare two different objects e.g., Whereas an ordinary unripe mango is green and sour, an unripe apple mango is red and a tad sweet.
"Although" is usually used to highlight differences in the same object. e.g., Although the apple mango is part of the mango family, it has a different taste profile.

very good explanation Vanilla +1 for you!!!!
