Hi Sajjad1994, can you please post the OA for Q6? I believe the Answer should be A as we are contrasting the view points of Lipset & Shils to those of Rogin.

Official Explanation

6. The author is primarily concerned with

Difficulty Level: 700+

Explanation

Topic and Scope: Desert plants and the adaptations that help them survive.

Purpose and Main Idea: This is a descriptive passage. The author is not concerned with attacking or defending a viewpoint; instead, she wants to detail how plants survive in arid environments. Basically, we have a shopping list of plant adaptations.

Paragraph Structure: In paragraph 1, we find out how desert plants have evolved traits that help them survive, with illustrations of these traits. Paragraph 2 provides more adaptations.

For this global question, go to your purpose and main idea. The author’s main purpose is to describe the rebuff to the views on McCarthyism expressed in the second paragraph. The author states that these conclusions were not based on real evidence, and suggested that they were shaped by preconceived prejudices. These are flaws in historical methodology, choice (D).

Choice (A) uses the wrong verb. The author is not comparing the views; rather, he is supporting one particular view, that of Rogin.

Choice (B) goes for a detail—Rogin’s research methods. And choice (C) distorts the author’s point of view that the two movements were fundamentally dissimilar.

Choice (D) is out because, although the author would agree with it, it does not address the main point of the passage.
