Hi Rohan,

I'm sorry to hear that test day didn't go the way you expected. A 645 when you've been scoring 705–755 on official mocks is frustrating, and I completely understand the disappointment.

That said, those mock scores tell an important story: you clearly have the skills to score well above 645. A dip across all three sections on exam day almost always points to a test-day execution issue (timing decisions, mental fatigue, or pressure affecting your rhythm) rather than a content gap. This is actually a well-known pattern, and the good news is it's very fixable.

Under real exam pressure, it's common to revert to a "baseline" when timing, nerves, or decision-making aren't yet locked in. Your mock progression from 705 to 755 shows the knowledge is there. The work now is making sure that performance holds up under exam conditions.

Here's what I'd recommend going forward:

  1. Short timed mixed-difficulty sets. Do sets of 10–12 questions across topics, mixing medium and hard, with a strict cap of about 2–2.5 minutes per question. Treat each set like a mini exam. The goal is building the habit of moving on cleanly when a question is eating too much time.
  2. Identify your test-day leaks. Think back to the exam. Were there moments where one tough question threw off your pacing or confidence for several questions after it? That cascading effect is one of the biggest score killers, and learning to reset quickly after a difficult question is a skill you can train directly.
  3. Be strategic with your remaining mocks. Take one more official practice exam about 5–7 days before your next attempt. Go in with a clear pacing plan and a rule for when to let go of a question (e.g., if you're not making any progress after 30–40 seconds, flag it and move on). After the mock, review not just what you got wrong but where your time went, especially on questions you spent a long time on and still missed.
You have the knowledge to score well into the 700s. The remaining work is turning that into consistent execution under pressure.

Finally, since you're a TTP student, if you'd like to dig deeper into your analytics or talk through a more tailored plan, feel free to reach out to us on live chat anytime.

Hi everyone, I've been studying for about 3 months and my score seems to be stuck around a 650 (Q44, V35). I'm currently using Target Test Prep and the Official Guide. Has anyone experienced a similar plateau? What specific strategies or resources helped you break through to the next level? Any advice is appreciated!

Hi MartyMurray ,

Thanks for the pointer. When you mentioned using questions tagged GMAT Paper Tests to see harder questions, does that apply to Verbal only?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that Quant questions from the GMAT Paper Tests are on the easier side compared with later OG's?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Target Test Prep and the Official Guide can get you pretty far, but for thorough GMAT preparation, many people find that they need to also practice on GMAT Club because the questions in the OG are a little on the easy side. For example, you could use questions tagged GMAT Prep (Classic) NOT (Focus) and GMAT Paper Tests to see harder questions from legacy practice tests.

That's a good question about Quant, and I'm not 100 percent sure of the answer, but I would think that questions rated Hard on GMAT Club would be hard regardless of source. So, Paper Tests questions rated Hard should be good.
