I have dyslexia and ADHD. I got approval from GMAC for 50% extra time for my GMAT exam and asked if I could use noise cancellation headphones but was reassured the test center would provide these.
I chose to take the exam administered at a Pearson Vue test center (in India, for the record). specifically because I needed to use the noise cancellation headsets as they help me focus given my learning disability- these headsets are not allowed to be used if a candidate takes the GMAT online version of the exam.
To be sure, I even emailed Pearson Vue to confirm these noise cancellation headphones will be provided but got a carefully worded delayed reply stating " both headphones and earplugs will be available for use at the test center. You are welcome to use whichever option you feel most comfortable with during the exam. " When I asked them to confirm the "noise cancellation" feature specifically, they did not respond.
On test day, lo and behold, there are no noise cancellation headsets but a lousy pair of headphones that do not remotely serve the function of reducing, let alone, cancelling noise. I had brought my own headphones for insurance but was not allowed to use these.
In light of the GMAT Official exam expiring in 2 days, and no other test center in the city, I took the test reluctantly (and underperformed by 40 points).
What are my options here? I'd appreciate any advise.
Thank you.
