aau,
I'm sure a lot of people would like to hear the details about the FAFSA: how it deterimines your expected contribution, the loan amount, etc.
If you have some time, please schedule something at your convinience here on the GMATclub.

love the idea, AAu! Yeah, we can have a sticky or announcement thread that lists the time you guys will log on and be "Ask AAu" or "Ask Rhyme".

Ahmed, it all depends on how much risk you want to take. Some people (who are experienced traders) can get 10% returns easily, but they know the markets very well. For average joes like us, to get 10%, we might actually lose some money unless we spend time really learning the ropes and maintain the portfolio during school. I personally am in the boat where I'd rather spend the savings slowly, maybe get some 0% interest "loans" with credit cards (all those introductory 0% things) and do it that way.

Hi Ahmed,
Personally I'd never recommend putting into stocks any money that you can't afford to lose. Having said that, this is no different to margin lending (except without the margin calls). If you are THAT confident about making money, sure go for it. But, beware of the pitfalls....

I wanted to ask you about the school of thought that's out there on taking out full loans (tuition & living expenses) instead of using one's own savings. rationale behind that being that you can leave say $20,000 in stock market (careful stock selections) would return you more money to offset the interest on your loan and then some. the upside potential is huge in the market given where market is right so why use your own money is the advice I have gotten from a couple of peopel. I wanted to get some feedback from you as I know you have some experience with FAFSA and overall financial processes one has to go thourgh during this business school process. anyone who has opinions, comments, or any experiences (personal or friends, family member) please feel free to share...

Thanks.

Hrm... let me give it a try. Maybe I'll create an Announcement and then Rhyme, AAu, Peli, and others can post their schedules? We'll see if that works. If not, we'll try something else.
