Hot dog vendors sold an average of 66 hot dogs per stand. Trainee vendors averaged 70 hot dogs sold. The ratio of non-trainee vendors to trainee vendors was 1 : 2. What was the average number of hot dogs sold by the non-trainee vendors?
The solution I have assumes there's 1 NT and 2 T.
2 T means it's 2 x 70hot dogs = 140 hot dogs. An average of 66 dogs with 3 people means: total hot dogs sold = 66 * 3 = 198 => The one NT sold 198 - 140 = 58.
Is there a different approach to this where I can use the ration algebraically ? Even if it's slower, I'm just curious since I wouldn't have though of using the average to get a total.

For every 3 hot dog vendors, 1 is a non-trainee vendor, and 2 are trainee vendors. Introduce 'n' = average number of hot dogs sold by the non-trainee vendors.
The total number of hotdogs must be equal to the number of hotdogs sold by the non-trainee vendors and the trainee vendors.
