how accurate are the KAPLAN scores ?

Hi,
I gave a couple of kaplan CAT recently and the score fell from 660-670 which I usually get with gmatprem and others to 540. The questions seemed a ibt tougher as well.
My question to others is whether others have faced the same experience or I am going from bad to worse with each passing day as I am approaching the test day :cry:

Common question. Kaplan scores are usually a very inaccurate predictor of one`s true ability. Also, the tests are NOT computer adaptive. They are good practice for timing, etc. but always stick with GMATPrep or Power Prep for a true indication of your performance level.

I believe the princeton cats are adaptive - the ones I have used appear to be.

Soccerfan, I can't tell you how relieved I am since reading your post and its subsequent replies. I scored around the 650 range with the Princeton and PowerPrep practice tests, and took my first Kaplan practice test last night. I received a 550. Granted, I didn't manage my time very well on the verbal section and, therefore, had to blindly guess toward the end, but I was deflated nonetheless by my final score.

I am going to stick to the Princeton/PowerPreps for truly adaptive CATs, and take CEO's advice and only use the Kaplans for timing.

This forum is such a great find.

Kaplan tests suck. I got 590 on it. Of course, halfway through it was clear to me that the questions were not at all like real GMAT questions and I just coasted through the rest of the exam. My score on the real thing was much higher. Just ignore your Kaplan results.

Is there any worth in the Kaplan tests? I hear the RC is completely worthless. Do you have suggestions regarding the other sections. I really don't want to waste my time on practice exams/practice sets that poorly emulate the actual GMAT. Thanks
