Hi everyone,
I wanted to get opinions on whether my school list is appropriate based on my profile and goals.
Basic stats: 29yr old (at time of matriculation) Asian Male
GMAT: 700(Q50, V35) – I will be taking the exam again as the score is approaching the end of its 5yr eligibility period. The 700 was before I discovered GMATClub, so I hope to make a decent improvement.
Undergraduate GPA:3.29
Graduate GPA: 3.78
Education: Bachelors in Business (Finance) from a small state school and a MS in Finance from a near elite school
Work Experience:
I will have a total of 5 years of work experience. 4 years at a mid-sized regional bank. I spent a year as a portfolio analyst before being promoted to a manager. I started off managing a single analyst and I now manage a team of five. My experience ranges from managing an investment position to representing the bank by working with auditors and regulatory authorities.
Previously, I spent a year working in a non-profit where I participated in educational grants to develop finance education for high school and college students in my home town. The program is very successful and has a strong local presence and has received attention from other states interested in emulating the program.
Extracurricular Activities:
-Mentor and industry contact for the finance education organization that I had previously worked with
-Alumni interviewer for my undergrad and grad schools
-Completed all 3 CFA exams
Other:
I faced a life threatening illness that impacted my undergraduate studies. When I recovered, I gained a new sense of appreciation for life and pursued more challenging opportunities.
And finally… my school list – does it make sense?
Long-Shot: Wharton, HBS
Reach: Booth, Columbia, Kellogg(1yr)
Sweet Spots?: Anderson, Fuqua, NYU
Also, I am considering employee sponsorship – anyone have thoughts on how this impacts admission decisions?
