Hello to the amazing people of GMATClub
I wanted to know how doing an MBA has impacted your career, life, personality, basically how has an MBA course changed you?
For example:
- Being unsure of which field to follow, an MBA helped you cut through this dilemma and landed you in a field which you like better than other fields
- How an MBA helped you personally, you realized a great improvement in your personality or you made great friends for life, found your partner etc
Share your amazing stories to motivate all us MBA aspirants more to reach our goals
Thanks!
Thanks for the question and for starting this topic! I just had an old friend ask me the other day if MBA made any difference in my life. He was thinking of getting a PhD online and it will take him 7 years
I have mentioned it a few times but FT MBA is really much more transformative than other degrees. I don't know how it will be with the online experience some schools are considering so let's leave that alone but with the FT program, from the very beginning you are so busy and it is so intense that a normal person would not agree do it if they knew all the details ahead of time. However, the amount of work and the final results are really empoering. When you accomplish something that seems impossible (by that I mean find an internship or complete a big project, not grades usually), you become a lot more confident and your self-worth goes up quite a bit. Having gone through GMAT, Applications, and the hardest of it all - first year, you feel that nothing can stop you now. Nothing that life will throw at you, will be harder than this. (not quite accurate but that's the feeling - you feel that everything is within reach). These feelings subside within a year or two as you settle into a job and realize there are limits and rules you need to play by but that's later.
Many people do make life-long connections though since everyone heads somewhere else after the MBA, these are not always the closest connections but whenever I am back in town where most of my classmates are, the door is always open and there is no hesitation or ceremonies. We went through hell together. We have seen it all

Now, there is an important thing about the MBA and how it usually works. You can't show up to an employer and say "I Have an MBA, hire me"... I mean you can and I am sure people have gotten a job just based on that but you have to have something else - your past experience, perhaps an internship, or maybe a hobby but something. So an MBA is not so much a replacement of you but an enhancement and it can make you much much more effective but if you have nothing, then it will make nothing much more effective, which is still nothing... so if you were interested in something and have goals great but if you were a lost soul who had no personality or hobbies and cares about nothing then it is still not going to fix that underlying problem....
Good Luck!
