For me, it varies by school.
For HBS - I had to submit because I was sick of them.
For Ross - I actually loved my essays, so I submitted way ahead of time. Lets see where that takes me.
For MIT - I am scared to death of my essays and will submit on 10/29 just to get them out of my head.

Im pretty sure I'll keep editing minor things on the essays too - I can already see how that will happen. (Today I keep adding and removing and adding the content again - wondering whether it adds anything to the essay).
