Thank you Hiline and Samir for your responses.
I figured I was making a mistake in my preparation somewhere. At around 400 hours, I have already begun making modifications to my study techniques.

I will probably be needing a tutor. Hopefully they are not too expensive.

Hi food668 -

If going to business school is important to you, you should not give up on the GMAT. However, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again, but expecting different results. So - we need to figure out what you’ve been doing and get you on a better, more productive path.

Could you please answer these questions as carefully as possible?

1) In addition to the Economist, what other resources have you used for your GMAT prep?
2) What’s an average day of studying like for you? An average week?
3) What was your overall GMAT prep strategy?
4) What did you do (please be as detailed as possible) during those 700 hours?
5) You said you took practice exams; were any of those exams taken from MBA.com? If so, what was the score breakdown of those exams?
6) What was the score breakdown of your last GMAT?
7) Have you taken the SAT or similar standardized exams? If so - how did they go? How did you score?

Here are two motivational stories of students (similar to yourself) who had to overcome many hurdles to achieve GMAT success. Give them a read...

Finally, if you would like some more personalized advice, feel free to reach out to me directly, and I’d be happy to help.

Hi food668,

You've clearly put in a lot of time and effort into this process, so it's understandable that you might be a bit 'burned out' and unsure of what to do next. With your Official Score, you certainly have room for improvement, but you've been studying a certain way for so long that you've likely developed some 'bad habits' that will take time to 'fix' (and replace with new 'good habits').

Given your general timeframe and goals, I think that it's important to define your plan so that we can reverse-engineer the most appropriate study plan possible.

1) What Schools/Programs are you planning to apply to (and what are the EXACT application deadlines?)? You really have to be definitive here. The specific Schools, and their application deadlines, will dictate some of the decisions going forward.
2) What were your Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores when you scored 610?
3) During the next few months, do you expect to remain unemployed?

Remember that the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. The work that you've done so far has gotten you to this level; you'll have to do some new work (which will require some adjustments on your part) to get to the next level.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
