Hi all,

My test is on the 19th of August '23 and I am currently at around 580-ish based on various mocks, what can I do to get atleast a 630? I'm able to solve the medium and hard questions but not within the 2 minute time limit, should i focus on getting answers right as much as possible and guess for the last parts? Should I skip the hard questions and focus just on getting all the easy ones right? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!!!

Any major change in Quant or Verbal strategy at this point won't help you in the upcoming test so just do the following:

1. Do not spend more than a couple of mins on any question (until and unless the answer is right there coming up with one more calculation)
2. If a question seems too hard and you are usually short on time, skip it. Invest your time in the questions you can solve.
3. Focus on easy and medium questions and try to get them done within the allotted time. Ensure there are no "silly errors" so take a step back before clicking next and see whether you have answered what was asked.
4. Do not leave any questions unanswered at the end. Guess if you must.
5. Rest in the last 2 days. Just review your notes fleetingly to look at all the formulas you want to keep in mind. Do not take any more full length practice tests (one if you must, but take it today itself).
6. Assume that this test could be a practice run so stay calm. If you do not get your desired score, once you are out of the test, jot down all topics in which you struggled. These notes will help you prepare for the next attempt, if need arises (though fingers crossed)

Best Wishes!!

Hi alax123,

At this point, it's not clear what your actual 'ability level' is right now, so it's possible that you'll need more than an additional week of study before you will be able to consistently score 630+. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) Is your overall goal score a 630 or something else?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Rich

Please find my answers below:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week? - Been studying since MArch for atleast 2 hrs every day including weekends...
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used? - I'd enrolled at a lcoal coaching centre called T.I.M.E and have used their mocks, also bought the official mocks, scores were 530, 580 and 560 on official mocks
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)? took the gmat official mock first and got a 540 (V28 and Q35) in march, then sometime in june took official mock 5 (V31 and Q39) and on july 19th took official mock 6 (V27 and Q39)

Goals:
4) Is your overall goal score a 630 or something else? - ideally close to 700 but one of my target schools said 630 was an acceptable score..
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to? - planning to apply for Jan '24 and fall '24 mostly looking at schools in EU - IMD, RSM, Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College

Hi alax123,

Since you are interested in some highly-competitive Schools, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement (and the more time that you have to implement those suggestions, the better). There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

I've also sent you a PM with some additional notes and questions.

Hi alax123,

Just to be clear this is your last shot at the GMAT, or can you give a retake if necessary?

So, let's see how things go on the 19th, and we can take things from there. As of now, start winding down your prep, so you are fresh for test day.

Thank you all so much for the tips and your support, it really helped! I got a 690 which is not bad at all (at least in terms of the target schools I have in mind)

Hi alax123,

That's fantastic news! Considering everything that we had discussed over the last week, this is a great result! If you'd like discuss all of this in more detail, then you can feel free to PM or email me - and you might consider purchasing the Enhanced Score Report for this attempt. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.
