Mike Maietta is one of the best teachers I have ever had. To anyone reading this that feels like they are underperforming what they are capable of scoring on the GMAT, I highly recommend getting in touch with Mike. He singlehandedly revamped my entire approach to studying, and I am incredibly grateful for his help. I improved my GMAT score from 630 (after several months of studying) to 710. Before reading more, it is important for me to provide some background about me: I am a white male, and my first language is English. I have always done well academically, but I am not exceptional at standardized testing.
Before I met Mike, I had spent the past several months struggling to beat the GMAT. I studied for nearly 100 hours and spent over $2k on a Manhattan Prep course before scoring a 630 on my first real attempt. This was a setback, but I naively figured that as long as I dedicated more time to studying I could do better without any extra help. However, after another 50+ hours studying and an identical second attempt score, I knew I needed I wasn’t making progress on my own.
I started looking online for a tutor. One day I was browsing Reddit when I saw a user post a review about GMATNinja . The user He talked about how the GMAT Ninja team taught students the fundamentals of for how to approach the GMAT, and how the team didn’t advertise any “quick tricks”. He also mentioned how GMAT Ninja leveraged the LSAT review books to help students improve in on the verbal section. Their philosophy to studying resonated with me, and I decided to reach out.
After only a few sessions with Mike, I was immediately seeing results. In particular, my verbal score saw tremendous improvement. Logistically, Mike made everything simple. We did our weekly meeting virtually on Google Hangouts, and he made it easy to follow along with the whiteboard he had in his office. After each of our sessions Mike prepared a “homework” guide for me to complete. I would then complete the homework and share the results with him. He would review my results, and we would then discuss how to improve in our next session.
This post is a long time in the making. As someone who was feeling very discouraged about my GMAT score before finding Mike, I hope that I can pay the favor forward to the next person in need of some help. Things have finally paid off as I will be starting my MBA at an M7 school with a significant scholarship this fall. I worked incredibly hard to get to this point, but I could not have “Beat the GMAT” without Mike’s help. Thank you Mike and the entire GMAT Ninja team.
