kento22I agree with
Leadership that your IR score is of less concern than your quant score. That is like 43% and you really want 70% at least. Where are you applying, how old are you and do you have a solid quant track record to make up for this score?
If you plan to apply to January intake - for INSEAD, HEC or IMD there is January batch and you will want to apply by May. So that puts some more pressure on getting the quant handled and you will have to work on applications at the same time. Get a tutor and consultant imo.
But even if you apply in the fall, right now, I would urge you to focus on the GMAT score and get that sorted. The higher the better on that, it is linked to both admissions and scholarships. Fall ideal scenario: get test score up by April/May, then work on R1 apps to submit in September.
Unless someone is diverse and/or has a super high test score, I recommend applying earlier than later. For example LBS R3 is very competitive because you are competing with everyone seeking to get more mileage out of their efforts who applied in R2 US schools.
More scholarships are available in earlier rounds as well.
Sometimes admissions says you have the same chances across all rounds but that is a big lie.
They only have so many seats that can go to Indians with a certain work background and when they are filled they are filled.
The situation is not as grave for Europeans, however, consultants and bankers should be cautious however about applying in later rounds.
Hope this helps!

Hi all,
I took my 1st attempt at the GMAT earlier this week and scored a 710 (Q43, V44). I was quite happy with the results given that I hadn’t had enough time to thoroughly study all the Quant material, even though I had taken some days off work to prepare for the test. I’ve been studying since summer 2019 but have been following a proper Quant study plan only since October, and it’s been difficult to find enough quality time to focus on my preparation because of long work schedules.
The average GMAT score in the full-time MBA programmes I want to apply to ranges from 700 to 710, so I guess that my score would look OK to AdComs. However, I am concerned about my IR score and how it could affect my application. I really hadn’t had time to prepare for it, and I had a cold and started feeling a bit ill during the final stage of the test, so my performance wasn’t the best and ran out of time. I got a 4/8, which is not a good score. My concern is that it could raise a red flag during my application process and put my candidacy at risk.
Is IR something that B-schools actually pay attention to? I feel like I could also improve my general score if I took the test again, and I would definitely improve IR. Would you recommend me to take the GMAT again?
At this point I can either 1) apply in R3/R4 in the following weeks or 2) apply in R1 in 6 months and try to improve my score in the following months.
Any advice would be really appreciated
Thanks!
