How is the score calculated?

Greetings!
Can someone please explain how the score is calculated in the GMAT?
Both the screenshots show the analysis of the DI section.
The score for picture 1 is 71 and the score for picture 2 is 72 (1 point difference) but there is a significant difference in the number of incorrect answers.

Thank you so much for posting these examples.... I’ve been looking for odd scores and collect these . I know it’s weird 🤷‍♂️

So nobody knows exactly how the score is calculated but there is a big impact based on how many points you get for easy and hard questions.

If you get a lot of easy questions wrong Or even a few, that’s a lot worse than getting a bunch of Card ones wrong. Depends on two factors actually the obvious factor is your performance on the test which is very obvious but a lot of people ignore the second one which is the question mix and the refreshes question every two weeks does not have enough questions, it’ll feed you medium and easy ones and if you mess up, you’ll get heavily penalized.

There are also things such as experimental questions. GMAC has been downplay these but they are still present on the test. Experimental questions I only present on the real test and they’re used to evaluate questions. These questions have no impact on your score see if they show up as a mistake, there’s no harm and similarly if you get them right, there’s no benefit.

How much are we penalized for leaving a question unanswered?

That may explain it - there is a steep penalty for leaving questions unanswered. In my experience it has been as high as 4 points per question but the scale is usually percentile based rather than point-based, so potentially as high as 6 percentiles. I see you have some questions unanswered in the first test and that is a likely culprit there.

However, I am collecting some weird scores to bring up in a discussion with the GMAC and get their feedback and opinion about the discrepancies. If you would like to have them review and share feedback (no guarantee they will agree but supposedly there is a chance), please shoot me either your Appointment ID or your email (used on mba.com) so I can pass them on to pull up the test results.

I think that the penalty for leaving questions unanswered is also quite high as I got 86 in Quant with all questions correct but just the last one unanswered.
