How many gallons of yellow paint must be added to a 20 gallons of green paint to create a paint that is 60% yellow if the green paint contains 20% yellow paint?

20 gallons of green paint contains -

Yellow paint = 4 gallon
Green Paint = 16 gallon

Now we want to create a paint that is 60% yellow

So,  \frac{4 + y}{20 + y} = \frac{6}{10}

Or, 40 + 10y = 120 + 6y

Or, 4y = 80

So, y = 20

Thus, we need to add only 20 Gallons of yellow paint, answer will be (E) 20

green original = 20 Gallons = Y (4ga) and G (16ga)
now you have to add yellow so green amount will stay same.
let x be the new quantity of paint mixture
x40%=16 gallons of green
x=40 gallons total
therefore, 20 gallons was increased by yellow paint.
