We need to calculate the distance in miles from Nurich to Greensburg.
STATEMENT 1:
(1) Sam drove the first hour of the three-hour trip from Nurich to Greensburg at 5 miles per hour faster than he drove the final 2 hours.
Total time taken is 3 hours. If we know the speed, then we can calculate the distances.
Final two hour journey, the speed is S . The speed during the initial one hour journey is S +5.
Distance d = S*2+ (S+5)*1. Without knowing the speed it’s not possible to calculate distances.
Hence, NOT SUFFICIENT.
STATEMENT 2:
(2) Sam drove the first 1/3 of the trip from Nurich to Greensburg at 38 miles per hour.
Total distance is d.
Drove 1/3 *d at 38 mph. Then what’s the speed for the remaining 2/3 rd distance ?.?
Hence, NOT SUFFICIENT.
Combining Both Statements, we don’t find anything concrete on speed or distances, or to correlate both. Hence, Option E
