Re: How many of the 120 cars in a certain dealer s inventory are [#permalink]
C

stat 1 tells ys that half of all sedans are blue, but we dont know the split from 120 between sedans and non sedans. insuff.

stat 2 tells us that 24 of the 120 cars are sedans. nothing about how many are blue. insuff.

together, we know that there are 24 sedans from stat 2, and that half of these are blue, from stat 1. suff.

Re: How many of the 120 cars in a certain dealer s inventory are [#permalink]
We know there are 12 cars, but do we know there are 12 blue sedans?

----------------Blue-------Not Blue------Total
Sedan-----------X------------X-----------24
Not Sedan-------X------------X-----------96
Total------------12-----------108---------120

How do we know those 12 do not belong to the "Not Sedan" group?

Re: How many of the 120 cars in a certain dealer s inventory are [#permalink]
I don't think that even if we take both statements together it is going to be sufficient though. The reason is that we don't know how much "overlap" there will be between cars that are blue and cars that are sedans.

Think of it this way:
Statement I: 120 cars, 60 are blue - let's just say those with numbers 1-60 are blue
Statement II: 24 are sedans - we can have cars with numbers 97-120 be sedan (in which case there will be no blue sedans), or we can have cars 1-24 be sedan (in which case there will be 24 blue sedans).

Conclusion: Insufficient info even with both statements

Re: How many of the 120 cars in a certain dealer s inventory are [#permalink]
aimecon, jimmy ->

120 cars in inventory

We know from statement (2) that there are 24 sedans (120/5=24).

Then, (1) states that half of the sedans are blue. (0.5*24= 12). There are 12 blue sedans.

C is correct.
