I've been working to improve my verbal score. From what I gather online, getting a score of 47+ requires ~1 mistake. Is that right? I know it's dependent on how everyone else does on the same exam but wanted to benchmark where I would need to be to get a score like that. Thanks in advance.

You can score V47+ with one, or in some cases two, missed verbal questions.
On another note, how everyone else does on the GMAT does not affect your score AT ALL. Your score depends on your performance on the questions you see, which are rated before you take the test not after everyone takes the test. In other words, in the calculation of GMAT scores, no adjustment like the adjustments made in calculating GRE or SAT scores is made.

Probably fair to say the scoring gets very steep when you go V45+. On my V48, for example, I got 1 incorrect counted question. Basically, 1 question dropped my score by 3 points. Had multiple students get V45s but I probably wouldn't advise any to adopt a "V45 or bust" mentality.
