I applied to the exact number that I intended to apply to all along, ten. I must say that the last few applications probably didn't receive the treatment that earlier apps received. For my Stanford app, since it's such a long shot anyways, I decided to go with free-form thought and writing. I thought out exactly what I wanted to say, put it to paper one time, and did not revise again, editing only spelling and grammar. We'll see how that turns out.

The Haas deadline (R3) was about 3-4 weeks after all the others, and after taking a break I found it tough to get motivated again. Haas is a personal favorite, and my recs, scores and transcripts were already in so I went ahead and did the application. If it were any other school, I probably would have dropped it at that point. I'm a little disappointed that the application was probably not my best work; but it's had to predict how Adcoms will view any set of essays anyways.

I did change my mind a lot about which schools to apply to, and which were my favorites. With about 1 1/2-2 months before R2 decisions are announced, I could imagine that preferences could still change some more.

I simply underestimated how much time the essays would take.

I originally signed up for another GMAT, but I had to cancel it because I had just enough time to finish up my essays for the 2nd round deadlines.
Moreover, I had to drop MIT.....

We all did I think. I know I did. I write with ease - its 98% of my daily job - so it comes naturally, but I found the process much much more difficult than expected.

I applied to four schools only (3 in R1 and 1 in R2) and I feel oh-so-insecure. I wish I started writing my essays two or three months earlier to have a broader coverage.

At first, I applied to average schools (near Elite), and think of some frontiers such as UC Davis as secure. But suddenly I received the admit at Notre Dame with cool scholarship (early December), so I applied to a transelite (Emory), then think of some Elite schools. And again, before I could apply to an Elite, I received admit at Emory (early January) and also with cool scholarship, so I just stopped and applied only to Yale. Honestly, I know my limit (too young, less experience, GMAT and essays are mediocre. I was dinged at Indiana Kelley), so I am happy with Emory. Even if I am admited to an Elite (less likely) but without a scholarship, I'd rather go with Emory.
Now I'm pretty free. Thinking of should I do some essays for UCLA and Duke. R3 is tough and very likely scholarship-free.
