compounded semi-annually: p/2%

2000*p/200 = 10p + (10p + p/200*10p) = 20p + p^2/20

compounded annually: p%

2000*p/100 = 20p

Difference:

(20p + p^2/20) - 20p = p^2/20

I don't usually prefer the algebraic approach so I just used simple numbers.

Assume p=10

In first case, she receives 100 Interest in first half of the year, 105 interest in second half of the year. Total interest - 205

In second case, she receives 200 interest for the full year.

Extra interest received = 5

Now just start eliminating the options one by one till you get to (D) i.e. p^2/20 = (10^2)/20 = 5

Answer matches, hence (D)
