How much water (in grams) should be added to the 35%-solution of 50g solution of acid to obtain the 10% solution?

How much water (in grams) should be added to the 35%-solution of 50g solution of acid to obtain the 10% solution?

Please show your work.

the percentage of acid in the resulting solution will be:

[0.35·50/(50+x)]=0.1 therefore x=125 g

Easiest way:

35% of 50 grams = 17.5 grams
if we want to have a 10% solution then 17.5 will be 1/10 of the total
Multiply by 10 to see that final solution must be 175 grams
175-50 = 125 grams of water

find how much solute we have, and that must be 10% of resulting solution.
so we have, 35% 0f 50= 17.5 solute
so 175 total soln required,
so add 125 to 50 and make it 175
