Hello community

Would really appreciate if i could get some advice of which website or what is the best way to start preparing for GMAT. I finished university in 2018 so im very rusted in everything, despite having a industrial engineer background.

I started the free e-gmat trial a few days ago, and was kind of discouraged. I understood every concept video (of verbal) but when i tried the skill test i was so lost, and got very bad results (exercises were on a completely different level of what i saw before).

Thanks in advance for your help

Piero
Hello, Piero. I am sorry to hear that you were discouraged by your results. (I feel the same way whenever I miss any question, to be honest.) Perhaps bb was being modest earlier by not mentioning his own definitive study plan. There are plenty of recommendations for books and e-courses. (Concerning e-GMAT, you should ask yourself whether you enjoyed the learning interface. You just might need more time for the concepts to sink in.) You might also be interested in the GMAT Ninja YouTube series, a compilation of videos that many high-scoring members have praised in their debriefs. The material ranges from beginning to advanced, so there is always something to learn. Finally, you can explore the Marketplace for reviews of various e-courses. (You can check other sites as well to gain a fuller perspective.) One word of advice: Whatever path you choose, see it through—learn everything you can with an open mind.

Good luck with your studies.

- Andrew

Hi pierogmat,

Prep resources (including tutors :)) aren't necessary.

For what it's worth, I normally recommend prioritising official practice material, especially for verbal. Try some official practice questions first, and check how you feel about your ability to do those questions. This way. you'll have some control over the difficulty of the (high-quality) questions you're attempting, and you could start either with easy questions or with a mixed set, which is more realistic.

Few days are generally very insufficient, to "move the needle".

Generally, few months are required, to make any substantive improvement.

Hi Piero,

Many GMATers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so if you've only recently started your studies, then you should not expect to have mastered any of the content or Tactics yet.

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi

There's a good chance that your discouragement is the result on not fully understanding the nature of the GMAT. It's not a typical Math or English test -- it's a test of reasoning skills that is different than any other test you've taken before. Once you understand the nature of the test and how it tests your reasoning skills, you'll be at a different level of confidence as you work on building your conceptual knowledge and test-taking skills simultaneously.

Happy to discuss further on a FREE intro call -- we can cover the key elements of the test and how you should tackle your prep for high success likelihood.
