How the Scoring out of 60 is calculated???

Hi ,

I took an GMAT prep practice test recently and i got a score of Q48 and V22 and a total score of 580. But in quants i got 22 correct out of 37 and in verbal i got 
23 correct out of 41.Hence i dont understand why there is lot of diff in the quants and verbal scores. Is it due to difficulty level or generally in Verbal section GMAC doesnt give high scores and is tougher for scoring?? I feel something odd in these type of scoring pattern..

That's the best kept secret of GMAT land - the scoring algorithm. No one knows what exactly it is (except GMAC). We are only given some guidance and we can only speculate based on that. We know that various factors decide the raw score - no of correct questions is just one input. So we advice our students to not waste time trying to figure out and/or game the algorithm. Instead, work hard on improving your conceptual understanding of the topics tested.

How did you do on the first 10 questions on Verbal Vs Quant. Your performance on the first 10 can have a major impact on your end score.
