Hi MAGNETIC,

We discussed this approximately 3 weeks ago, but it bears repeating:

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here and we can discuss the results and come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hello Aspirants/Experts,

I've just started my GMAT prep, can anyone share their approach on how they started their preparation along with job? What should I study first and what should be the strategy over time? How to divide time between Quant and Verbal, should I give equal time to them from starting or study one at a time? If Quant then what topic to start first and the best possible order for other topics and what in case of Verbal? Also, please share the study material I should use apart from OG. I'm planning to take GMAT in July.

Thanks

Hi MAGNETIC,

I have a few articles which you might find helpful. Please go through them to understand the right way to prepare for GMAT.

How to effectively plan your studies for GMAT

How to score 700+ on GMAT

How to start preparing for GMAT

The need of the hour (A personalized study plan):

The first thing to do is to create a proper study plan with clear deadlines. But a generic study plan will not help as you need a study plan according to your requirements. As you are a working professional, lets say you can devote 4 hours everyday to studies. In that case, you need a study plan which has tasks that can be finished in 4 hours on any day. Not less, not more.

So, you need a personalized study plan which takes into account the number of hours you can study in a day. Once you have a study plan, make sure to stick to that. Create a habit of studying everyday because consistency is the key. You can go through the recording below to understand the right way to create a study plan.

As you have just initiated your GMAT prep, it would be better to prepare using a standard course which can help you with your overall preparation. A resource which can provide you all the things on a single platform will help you save your time and energy and prevent your chances of being unstructured in your approach. . Also, as you are a beginner, you might face a little difficulty in making a study plan. GMATWhiz helps you to create one. Moreover, GMATWhiz is one such unique course which teaches you a methodical approach to solve each question type. There is a free trial available for which you can register and check out its features.

Having said that, I need a few more details about your GMAT prep so that I can help you in a much better way. The details could include:

  • the time you can devote to studying each day
  • your strengths and weaknesses
  • your target score

You can write back to me here or a better way is to get in touch over a call and discuss the same. You can use the link below to schedule a call with me.
