How to boost GMAT Score from 670 to 700+ within 3 weeks  [#permalink]

Dear all,

1 week ago I took the GMAT-Exam and scored a 670 (Q48; V35). (I prepared for around 1 month using Economist Tutor & Official Books)

My goal is now to get a score above 700.
However, I only have 3 more weeks to study for the GMAT.

What do you think would be the best strategy/tutor to make the most out of the 3 weeks? I thought about using EMPOWERgmat but as their shortest program is for 4-6weeks of preparation I'm not sure whether it´s the right one.

Could you give me some advice?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Arnem,

Your quant score is strong so considering the limited time frame, it may be most beneficial to focus the majority of your time on bolstering your verbal score. Were you able to identify your weakest area in your V35 by looking at your ESR?

Hi arnem,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. With a 670, it's certainly possible that you know everything that you need to know to hit 700 (although it's also possible that you got a little 'lucky' on Test Day and that your current 'ability level' is closer to a 640). Since you have a much bigger opportunity to pick up points in the Verbal section - and with just 3 weeks of potential study time - your efforts would likely be best served by focusing on the Verbal section (while doing a bit of Quant work just to keep those skills sharp).

1) Why do you have 'only 3 weeks' to study? Are you facing any looming application deadlines (and if so, would you still apply if you did not hit 700+?)?
2) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

Hi arnem,

I think you should focus on your verbal section a bit more. However, given how close your GMAT date is, I personally do not think one should adopt any new method on the final leg of their GMAT Preparation. It may be nice to give a couple of mocks (the official ones) and work on your weaknesses, but trying something new might not work in anyone’s favour. Complete the OG and also consider buying the GMATPREP QP1 for some great official questions. However if you want to improve on any individual area such as Sentence Correction, you may subscribe to the E-gmat SC course as you can finish the whole course in 10 days (with proper dedication). If however you are only looking to indentify and improve on your weak areas, I would encourage you to purchase the e-gmat scholaranium. It is without a doubt, one of the best practice tools for verbal and will indeed help you on the final leg of your preparations. I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Hope this helps. All the best.
