Hi happy650,

You posted this in another Forum on this site, so I've pasted over my response from there:

While the experiences from other Users can provide some useful information and perspective, there's a practical way to make the choice easier - you have to try out the various products and find the ones that you 'like.'

Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at out site (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

If you have any additional question, then just let me know.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

I specifically want the experts of the prep companies to answer:
How can I choose the right GMAT prep for me?

Almost all online prep websites have a comparison table, but not comparing the same things.
What should I consider when deciding who to go with?
What's each advantage over others?

Hi happy650,

Since you have posted the exact question in another forum too, so I have pasted the same response here.

Seems like you are just starting with your preparation. The best way to find out about a course is to go through the reviews and see what the people talk about the courses.
You can find the reviews here:
https://gmatclub.com/reviews/gmat_courses/

If you want to know more about our courses, you can find the details here:
https://www.optimus-prep.com/gmat-on-demand-course/
You can also see a comparison table to help you decide on a course.

You need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways:

1. In person classes/private tutoring
2. Online classes
3. Self paced online preparatory course
4. Book heavy approach

Whatever you choose, make sure that you choose one. Because GMAT tests you on some concepts and fundamentals that you can learn from a course. Most of the preparatory companies including ours offer a free trial of our course. You can take the trial and see if the course suits your needs.
In addition to the preparatory material, buy the Official Guides(both the Official Guide and the Verbal Review), Question Pack 1 and the 6 official mock CATs. They should be an indispensable part of your preparation.

You need close to 3 months to prepare well for the GMAT.

1. Understand the concepts and fundamentals before jumping into problem solving
2. Solve full length CATs including AWA and IR. You can get two free GMAT Prep mock CATs and can purchase two more from mba.com
3. Make sure you solve the official questions from the Official Guide

As a first step in your preparation, I would recommend you to sit for a GMAT prep mock CAT and find out your current standing. You can download 2 free tests from mba.com

Hi happy650,

As you research the GMAT Prep that is best for you, it does make sense to check out free events and materials, as you have already been advised. Kaplan offers a free event called Inside the Classroom that gives attendees the chance to watch an hour of a Kaplan online class from a student perspective. You could preview Kaplan strategies and ask any questions of the teachers who are present, which is an opportunity offered at all of our events. You can find the list of our upcoming events at this link: https://www.kaptest.com/gmat/enroll?tab=events Our next Inside the Classroom event is on 4/20 and is included in the list.

One specific resource that is unique to Kaplan is our Official Test Day Experience, which allows our students to take one of their practice tests in a Pearson center. This is a great way to preview what to expect on the day you take your official GMAT.

As you choose a way to prepare for the GMAT, consider whether you want to have a live teacher coaching you along the way or if you prefer to work at your own pace independently using books or videos. Your personal learning style will help you narrow down the options that will work best for you. Also take note of practice resources available, like question banks and full-length CATs, because practice will be essential throughout your studies.

Best,
Jennifer
