Hi JBgmat13,

Assuming that you took your practice CATs/mocks in a realistic fashion that matches-up with how you will take the Official GMAT, you're fairly close to your Score Goal right now. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Not sure what your SC is like, but it may help to get an idiom list that is relevant for the GMAT. Doing so may improve your Verbal scoring.

Hi Guys,

My target score is 650. I did four prp test with 600, 650, 610 and 610 respectively.
I usually get Q43-45. I really tried improving Verbal but cant get past V30.
Should I try improving my Verbal significantly? Should I try to improve my Quant significantly?
Or should I try to improve both a little.

I am thankful for every help I can get

Hi JBgmat13,

Depends on which you are more comfortable with. Your mock scores are a little inconsistent. On the test day, they might go either way. So, it's important to understand what your actual score is. Because, you might have got lucky with a few questions and got the right answers without using the correct methods. In that case, your score is definitely inflated.

No matter which section you want to improve, make sure to do it in the right way. Practicing questions isn't the ideal way obviously. The right way to do is to analyze your mocks, identify the topics in which you made the mistakes and then categorize them into two different aspects.

  • One is the conceptual gaps - In this case, revisit the concepts of the topic, learn the right methods to solve questions of that topic and then practice questions
  • Second is the struggle with the application of concepts - In this case, you are conceptually clear but are struggling with the process of solving questions. You need to analyze the solutions of the questions in depth, identify at which step you are making the mistake and then learn the right approach.

Only after you are clear with the concepts and the methodology part, you have to move to practicing questions. And I can suggest you in a better way, if you can provide you me a little background about

  • your current preparation strategy,
  • your weak areas
  • your tentative GMAT date

This will help me get a better perspective and will let me guide you in a better way. We could get in touch over a call and have a detailed discussion on the same. You can use the below link to get in touch with me.

Hi JBgmat13,

To maximize your score increase, I think it would be worth trying to improve in both quant and verbal. If you'd like any advice on how to do so, feel free to reach out.
