Hello,
I am a non-native speaker and sometimes I get into the situation that I don't understand the text of a problem.
How do you deal with such situations?
Hi
SchachfreizeitLet me share my two cents as a non-native speaker of English. To master Verbal, the biggest hurdle non-native speakers face is following a methodical approach to solve questions. We need special emphasis on understanding the meaning of the arguments and passages. Verbal questions on GMAT are very tricky. Let me help you with the right way to approach your Verbal Prep.
How to Ace your Verbal Prep?
For GMAT Verbal, it is very important that you follow the
right methodology and the
logical approach. Your focus has to be on
eliminating four incorrect choices rather than choosing the right one. The key is to develop a solid understanding of the concepts that are typically tested on the GMAT and master the process skills that are required to solve GMAT questions. Only then, you will be able to smartly avoid the traps set by the test makers.
Before you start learning, it's important to understand what is actually tested using the questions. Each module in Verbal (SC, CR and RC) has to be approached in a different way. Let me brief that to you.
1. to solve SC questions, you have to approach them from a meaning stand-point. Most students think that knowing grammatical rules would suffice, but what GMAT actually tests on SC is the ability to convey the right meaning without ambiguity.
2. To solve CR questions, you need to develop the ability to pre-think the answer before you jump into the solutions. For this, you need to understand the framework behind the question.
3. To solve RC questions, you need to have the right reading strategies so that you can read the passage in an inferential manner and draw proper inferences.
I would suggest you to learn the concepts in a methodical way and solve questions from the topic on daily basis. As you keep applying the concepts and the methodologies on daily basis, it gradually starts becoming a habit and stays with you.
