Hi Blazethrough14,

Since the Round 1 deadlines are over 8 months away, you have plenty of time to study, take the GMAT and work on your applications. While it might be tempting to study 'when you can', you really should plan out (and stick to) a study routine though.

Since you did do some studying a few months back, did you ever take a FULL-LENGTH CAT? If you did, then how did you score (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

Hello,

I just purchased Magoosh prep and will begin the 3 Month GMAT Study Schedule for Beginners plan tonight. I also have Manhattan GMAT prep books. How do you suggest using both of these in the most effective way? My goal score is 700-720, and I would be applying for schools for Fall 2017 entry.

Thanks

I think one word of caution in this case is that 2xcourses =/=2x result. It is more like 0.75 result from what I have seen and observed. Part of the trick is to balance your learning and retention along with material. I would suggest that you pick one or the other and augment only if you need it (e.g. if you are struggling with a topic).

Good Luck!

Didn't take a CAT. Based off Magoosh's timeline, my first CAT will be at the end of week 5.

My initial plan is to follow Magoosh's curriculum and watch the videos, then use MGMAT to reinforce the material.

Hi Blazethrough14,

Since you have so much study time available, you can certainly feel free to study any way that you choose. Waiting 5 WEEKS to define your personal strengths and weaknesses might not be the most effective way to start off your studies though.

do you suggest timing my first CAT? If the main purpose is to discover strengths and weaknesses?

Hi Blazethrough14,

Taking an untimed CAT would be unrealistic (and yield unrealistic results), so you should plan to take a FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) under conditions that are as realistic and test-like as you can make them (any reputable CAT will handle the timing for you). You will likely have some pacing 'issues' on this first attempt (and on your first few attempts), but that's okay - it's one of the aspects of the GMAT that you have to learn to train for.
