I am in same situation, experts say do self error analysis to find weak areas and then master them.
quote="lukese7"]I just took my first official GMAT today and got a 640 (40Q 38V). A week ago I took a GMATprep practice test and scored a 640 with the exact same sub scores so this is about what I was expecting. However, I think I can hit 700.
I've studied for about 19 weeks now (a lot I know), with the first 3 just doing a
MGMAT math fundamentals review, so I've had about 16 weeks of concentrated self-study, doing 2 hours every day Mon-Thurs and 7 hours on the weekends. I hadn't done math in a decade and couldn't even remember how to do long division so while my score isn't great right now I still feel like I've come a long way from where I was. My overall lack of skill in math is why I've studied so long but I'm trying my best.
At the moment I've gone through every problem in the
OG 2018 book, read through all of the
MGMAT guides cover to cover (and reviewed most of the quant books a few times each), and taken 5 CATS (4
MGMAT, 1 GMATprep). My CAT scores are the following:
MGMAT 1 - 530
MGMAT 2 - 580
MGMAT 3 - 590
MGMAT 4 - 600
GMATprep - 640
At this point I feel like the best avenue to improve my score is to drastically improve my quant, and due to it being low (40) I think I'm clearly missing some of the fundamentals, but I also want to be able to attack the tougher questions in order to reach that 700 level.
I have access to two more
MGMAT CATS and one more GMATprep CAT, and the
OG 2018 Quant and
OG 2018 Verbal books, but I've heard the questions aren't that tough in those and I'm worried that I won't improve my score much just doing those problems. Does anyone have any opinions on those books?
Essentially I'm wondering if anyone has any additional advice on what resources I should use and what the best approach is to improve my score by 60 points moving forward. I'm taking a two-week break to go on vacation and rest my brain and after that I'm going to study for probably about 8 more weeks before taking the test again and I won't be taking it a third time.
Any advice helps. Thanks.[/quote]
