Hi Experts,
I took the GMAT yesterday and scored a 720 (Q50, V38). While this is a decent score and I am happy to have broken the 700 barrier, I know I can do better. I am planning to retake the exam towards the end of the month and would appreciate your input on my game plan.
Background: Indian, Male. 6 years work experience, currently working in Fintech. I plan to apply to a Full-time MBA program in Round 1/Round 2 2022.
GMAT Preparation OverviewI started studying for GMAT in Sept 2021 using
TTP for Quant. Over the past 3 months, I have been using
GMAT Whiz for both Verbal and Quant. As I completed each chapter in
TTP/
GMAT Whiz, I solved the
OG questions (
OG 22). Initially, I wasn't reviewing questions I got right (only what I got wrong) but I changed this during the last few months of prep.
Summary of mock tests:
GMAT Prep 1 (Sept 2021, used as diagnostic): 570 (Q39 V30)
GMAT prep 2 (Dec 2021): 690 (Q49 V36)
GMAT Prep 3 (3/25/22): 700 (Q49 V37)
GMAT Prep 4 (4/15/22): 730 (Q49 V40)
GMAT Prep 5 (4/25/22): 760 (Q49 V45)
GMAT Prep 6 (4/29/22): 750 (Q50 V43)
Analyzing my performance in Prep 3, I noticed that I was doing fairly well in SC and had plenty of room for improvement in CR and RC. This is where GMAT Club came to the rescue and I regularly solved 600+ and 700+ questions from the Forum. During the last 2 weeks leading up to my exam, I was doing 2-3 RCs from GMAT Club every day.
Actual Test experienceQuant: Given my experience practicing tougher questions on GMAT Club, I felt the actual exam quant questions were straightforward. I probably stumbled on a P&C question, but otherwise, my pacing was spot on.
Verbal: I started out slow as I was keen on not screwing up. I felt very confident about my RC answer choices, somewhat confident in the CR section, and constantly torn between 2 choices in SC. This is more or less consistent with what I am seeing in the ESR (100% accuracy in RC, 81% in CR, and 55% in SC). 55-60% accuracy in the SC is definitely on the lower end as I viewed SC as my strong suit.
Game plan questionsHow should I be studying SC over the next 3 weeks to help boost my concepts and not fall for the trap choices?
Is there anything you would recommend so I can keep up my skill level in RC/CR?
For my retake, I intend to focus on Verbal (vs Quant) as I see this as the biggest area of opportunity. Would you recommend I switch up this thinking?
