To improve your quantitative score, I believe that you should compartmentalize your learning and take the time to master each topic (e.g., percents, ratios, exponents, statistics, etc.). This means that, for each topic, you should:
1) Learn the underlying concepts (rules, attributes, notation, etc.)
2) Learn GMAT-specific strategies related to that topic
3) Practice dozens of questions all related to that one topic.
4) Don't stop working on that topic until you have mastered it

Then, and only then, move on to the next topic.

To help you focus on one topic at a time, you can use GMAT Club's tagging feature.

You should also spend a lot of time reviewing the responses from the Experts on this site. They model the steps one should take when tackling math problems.

Cheers,
Brent

Hi 89renegade,

Before I can offer the advice that you're looking for, I'd like to know a bit more about your studies so far:

1) How long have you studied?
2) Have you used any other materials besides the books that you listed?
3) How have you scored on each of your practice CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)?

4) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hello Rich,

1)I started to study from Nov 2015
2)Nope,I havent used any material other than OG 15,OG 15 review(Qand V) and Manhattan entire set of 5th edition. Is 5th edition the latest one ?
3) I have solved GMAT prep Test 1 (Completely demoralized me ,please find the attached screenshot) Quant was able to complete the test but for Verbal unable to do so, ,solved only 37/41

4)My plan was to take the test around mid march, but not a hurry , Anytime this year before July

5)Planning to apply From October 2016 for 2017

Hello Guys,
I practiced Quant and Verbal since last 2 months and gave MGMAT CATs and surprisingly on both I scored 590 and on both V31 and Q41.
Now the question is how to form a strategy post CAT and what exatly is needed to get a jump of 110 points hereafter.
I nedd some advice regarding this.

Hi 89renegade,

I'm sorry for not responding to your earlier post back in February - given the highly volume of message that I deal with, it must have gotten 'buried' and I missed it. Since then, it looks like you've made some nice improvements to your score. I'd like to know more about how you've been studying over the last few months:

1) What materials have you used?

When you took your CATs:
1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take them at home?
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as when you'll likely take your Official GMAT?
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions before?

Hi,
So for your questions,
1) 1st CAT took quant and verbal with all necessary requirement breaks timings etc.2nd CAT with Essay and IR with all required exam settings and ambience and steps required by GMAC.Score-590 on both tests.
2)yes both at 2:30 pm same as exam time
3)As I told first test was without IR and essays but rest all as per GMAC standards.Second test took all sections and set the timings and breaks same as that of actual GMAT.
4)I have solved 600-700 level and 700-800 level questions from GMAT club and OG 15,OG review books ,For verbal I have solve OG,OG review and Comprehensive SC questions as well some question set of Kaplan,OG,GMAT prep,Manahattan clubbed together with different levels.3-4 questions from CR and SC in verbal I found quite known but rest was new

I now want to practice in such a way that along with the practice I could finish my remaining 4 MGMAT CATs and 3 GMAT prep CATs.Myfinal exam the D-day is on 18th June.So need some strategy to boost up to q48 and v37
Quant analysis after test(problem areas)
PS-Rate and work,Percent,Ratio,
DS-Odd even,Positive negative,algaebra and sometimes numbers,Divisibilityand Remainder(700-800level)
Timing for quant also a problem(especially MGMAT tests, 3questions ,I have to randomly guess ,happened on both the tests)
Verbal problem areas-
SC-700-800 level mostly parallelism, comparison and pronoun errors mixed together in a sentence. So after shortlisting to last 2 choices going wrong while selecting final.
CR- Assumption,Conclusion and Evaluate (700-800 only)
RC- major issue too many wrongs I have got.

Hi 89renegade,

With a Test Date on June 18th, you have less than 3 weeks of study time remaining. Unfortunately, raising a 590 to a 700+ in that time is not a realistic goal, so you should consider pushing back your Test Date. While you could certainly take your GMAT as scheduled, you'll almost certainly have to take it again - if you don't mind spending the extra money, then you might still find that initial Official Test to be valuable (in that you can experience the Official GMAT and use that knowledge to better prepare for your retake). To hit your score goal, you'll have to make some significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections.

Hi sarang1601,

You might want to start your own thread by posting this message as a new post (and not as a 'reply' to someone else's post). That having been said, I have a few additional questions about your timeline and goals:

1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
