actual test i scored only 660 (Maths - 49, V - 30)
...to score 740+

This person went from a V31 to a V40 (retake) in about 30 days for a 740. They took a bit of tutoring but mention a variety of resources (some free) that you can potentially leverage. Consider working with a study buddy. With a Q49, you could teach Quant in exchange for Verbal, for example.

I appeared for GMAT in 1st Week of Aug 2022. I studied for 2 months using OG, and Manhattan Verbal Prep. I appeared for all the 6 OG Mock Tests and was comfortably scoring 700+. (Maths - 50, Verbal 34 - 39). However, in the actual test i scored only 660 (Maths - 49, V - 30). I have rejected the score. Verbal is very weak area for me.
Hi 9nit,

Are you sure that your verbal needs a lot of work? I ask because V34-39 would normally be considered a very good score, and it's possible that your V30 is not representative. Did you see any questions that you were already familiar with on those official practice tests?

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your response. Following are the information you asked for:

1) Over the last 2 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
I spent 10-15 hours each week (including weekends). This time includes giving mocks as well. Also, I took dedicated preparatory leave 10 days prior to the test, however, 4 days out of that leave is wasted because of seasonal flu.

2) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
Dates Quant Score Verbal Score Overall
Official Practice Exam 1 1st June 2022 50 27 650
Official Practice Exam 2 12th June 2022 50 39 730
Official Practice Exam 3 9th July 2022 50 36 710
Official Practice Exam 4 17th July 2022 49 35 700
Official Practice Exam 5 25th July 2022 50 32 690
Official Practice Exam 6 2nd August 2022 50 38 720
GMAT Test 4th August 2022 49 30 660

3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
I intend to get into Top B schools in Europe and Singapore (INSEAD, HEC, IMD, NUS, etc.) . More preference to 1 year or 15-18 month programmes. At this point of time, i am planning for Jan 2024 intake or Aug 2024 intake. However, would like to re-apear for GMAT on or before 31st December 2022.

For verbal, i am not able to maintain focus while reading, thus required to re-read. Improved a lot in SC questions through concepts learned from manhattan verbal review, however, not able to solve easy but tricky questions and questions required in depth understanding of concepts applications. I usually end-up relying on elimination technique and guesses if more than one option remains. CR is mostly okay, except for questions where negation technique is required. In RC, i face the re-read problem. Actually, re-reading problem persists in all sections - SC, RC, and CR.

I would really appreciate if you could provide guidance as to how to navigate the verbal section.
